In 2018, coal mining in Germany will come to an end, and with it an important branch of industry that has shaped the Ruhr region like almost no other cultural landscape for more than 150 years. 17 RuhrKunstMuseen in 13 cities are using the coal phase-out as the occasion for a uniquely exciting art project. Works from all media related to coal and mining will be exhibited, including forward-looking young positions as well as works from the established art historical canon - Jannis Kounellis, Richard Long, Alicja Kwade, Olaf Metzel, Richard Serra and other international artists are represented.
