About

This volume focuses on ФОМУШКА (Fomušk), the latest large-scale work by Micol Assaёl, which has been shown in three different institutions in different ways and experienced anew at each location. Based on Assaёl's passionate fascination with scientific theories and physical principles such as electrostatics, gravity, and wind power, the complex work was developed in close collaboration with engineers from the Moscow School of Energetics and under the artist's aesthetic vision. Her minimal arrangements often play with the spectrum of sensory perceptions, allowing for unusual experiences that may well include uncomfortable and unsettling moments. For example, Fomuška builds up a strong electrostatic field that causes the viewer's hair to literally stand on end. The volume accompanies the complementary exhibitions in Kassel, Vienna, and Bolzano, and as a monograph is devoted to Assael's entire oeuvre.
